During a residency with Yorkshire Wildlife Trust I discovered the important role cows and sheep play in maintaining an endangered habitat. The UK has lost 97% of its wildflower meadows since the 1950s and these habitats provide important shelter, food and breeding grounds to a wealth of birds and insects.
This story follows the young women who manage the grazing flock, and illustrates the vital role volunteers play in nature conservation. During a time when the changing climate features so prominently in our lives, it is inspiring to see a pragmatic response in those willing enough to change their lives and make time for a cause they believe in.
